Technical Lead and SME responsible for developing programs to track, evaluate, implement, and promote forecasting model evolution including production modeling on Short Term Forecasting using Big Data, Machine Learning, Numerical Weather Prediction Models, Artificial Intelligence, and Neural Networks.  Develops and enhances energy efficiency models, demand response models, and other energy models and incorporates their impacts to the Short Term Load Forecast.

 

Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops and implements new forecasting tools and interfaces through the use of computer programming. Proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets, architecting specialized database and computing environments, and communicating results
  • Enhances current or develops tools through knowledge of computer programming languages such as VBA, Python, Perl, etc. Evaluates potential inefficiencies in current procedures and seeks improvements
  • Responsible for developing, modeling, and enhancing complex energy efficiency models, demand response models, short term load forecast, wind forecast, solar forecast, and other energy models (plug in electric vehicles, distributive generation models) through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques
  • Provides project management expertise to oversee, coordinate, evaluate, and drive developed Short Term Forecasting projects to production and/or application
  • Conducts post-analysis to evaluate forecast accuracy. Seeks to improve pre-established forecasting goals. Continuously improves understanding of forecasting developments within the meteorological field and the impact of such developments to the organization
  • Provides guidance, sets daily work assignment priorities for staff as needed. Identifies staffing needs and mentors, coaches and trains staff to optimize the team. Provides feedback to management regarding staff performance in support of the performance evaluation process. May participate in department hiring activities such as interviewing and providing feedback on candidates' technical qualifications
  • May function as a Department Manager and is accountable to Manager for actions taken in Manager's absence. May be granted additional supervisory authority based on department needs and/or consistent with departmental succession planning

 

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Meteorology, or similar, required. An advanced degree preferred
  • 6+ years of related experience in Electric Load Forecasting and Modeling
  • Knowledge and experience in electricity market designs and power system operations desired. Familiarity with Numerical Weather Prediction Models and aptitude for working with the statistical analysis of data and gridded atmospheric data sets
  • Experience in Short or Long Term Forecasting (Load, Wind, and/or Solar generation) using numerical weather prediction, artificial neural network and/or machine learning techniques
  • Strong open-source project experiences that demonstrates programming, mathematical, and machine learning abilities.
  • Demonstrates fundamental management and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment as a leader, facilitator and team member and influence others without direct authority
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with ITRON forecast model is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills required
