Sr. Engineer, Protection & Control Engineering performs activities related to the engineering and design of protective relays and associated systems for the transmission and distributions system. Additionally, will assist in the evaluation of protection system operations and system failures, along with appropriate resolutions, to provide support to operations as needed.
- Create protection recommendations, perform short circuit studies, perform relay coordination studies, investigate proper relay operation during faults, provide relay settings, investigate protection conditions, etc. Ensure all recommendations meet all applicable federal, state, local and engineering codes including (NESC, NEC, ANSI and IEEE) as well as company standards and review with engineering management before issuing recommendations when appropriate.
- Provide studies, engineering, design and technical support to help implement work performed in a cost-effective manner by company Operations and outside consulting personnel. Assist other engineers in more complex engineering projects where required.
- Proactively prepare recommendations and implement changes that will improve or change facilities, improve reliability of the energy delivery system and/or company standards/materials by monitoring industry changes and changes in equipment performance, legislation, codes, regulations, standards and safety practices relevant to the company’s system condition assets and ensuring the assets are up to date.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and other documentation for presentation to engineering management. Effectively interact with and communicate complex engineering concepts to fellow engineers, technicians, and non-engineering personnel.
- Provide technical support for various NERC compliance standards including PRC-002, 004, 006, 023, 027.
- BSEE, or similar required an advanced degree MSEE, MBA, preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- 7+ years of utility industry and energy delivery experience
- Familiarity with NESC, NEC, ANSI and IEEE Standards
