Electrical Engineer with significant power systems experience, who performs planning and analysis of utility grade electric transmission and distribution systems, including system impact studies related to future system developments.  Broad responsibilities include providing engineering support for on-going electric T&D, water, technical services, generation and telecommunications projects, as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct, coordinate, interpret, and prepare electric transmission and distribution system studies, computer models, load flow analyses, and short-circuit studies, including:
    • Develop and maintain both short- and long-range plans of required system improvements. Review and maintain outage information database to determine future system improvements
    • Apply engineering principles to the evaluation and selection of planning alternatives
    • Review historical load information and forecast future system demand and energy requirements
    • Maintain coordination of substation relays and line fuses
  • Prepare data submittals for MISO and other regional organization's data requests, including system modeling. Coordinate with other departments as needed. Support Utility's compliance with MRO and NERC Reliability Standards and prepare documentation as required. Participate in MISO and other regional organization committees to stay abreast of upcoming changes.
  • Provide technical assistance and engineering support for on-going electric transmission and distribution, water, technical services, generation, and telecommunications projects as required

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, power option preferred
  • 5+ years of utility experience, including planning, engineering or operations, preferred
  • Working knowledge of transmission & distribution planning and analysis software such as PSS/E & CYME preferred
  • Proficiency with information retrieval from databases preferred
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal codes and standards that govern work on the electric transmission and distribution system, such as NESC, NEC, NFPA, OSHA, NERC, MRO, and MISO procedures
  • Working knowledge of, and the ability to stay current in, programming languages such as VBA
  • Familiarity with CAD and GIS is a plus
  • Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal, relationship and team building skills
  • Strong multitasking, planning, project management and organizational skills
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Word and Excel
